Natural Language Database Interface for Selection of Data Using Grammar and Parsing

چکیده

Databases have become ubiquitous. Almost all IT applications are storing into and retrieving information from databases. Retrieving information from the database requires knowledge of technical languages such as Structured Query Language (SQL). However majority of the users who interact with the databases do not have a technical background and are intimidated by the idea of using languages such as SQL. This has led to the development of a few Natural Language Database Interfaces (NLDBIs). A NLDBI allows the user to query the database in a natural language. This paper highlights on architecture of new NLDBI system, its implementation and discusses on results obtained. In most of the typical NLDBI systems the natural language statement is converted into an internal representation based on the syntactic and semantic knowledge of the natural language. This representation is then converted into queries using a representation converter. A natural language query is translated to an equivalent SQL query after processing through various stages. The work has been experimented on primitive database queries with certain constraints. Keywords—Natural language database interface, representation converter, syntactic and semantic knowledge.

Data-driven systems can be adapted to different languages and domains easily. Using this trend in dependency parsing was lead to introduce data-driven approaches. Existence of appreciate corpora that contain sentences and theirs associated dependency trees are the only pre-requirement in data-driven approaches. Despite obtaining high accurate results for dependency parsing task in English langu...

An improved joint model: POS tagging and dependency parsing

Dependency parsing is a way of syntactic parsing and a natural language that automatically analyzes the dependency structure of sentences, and the input for each sentence creates a dependency graph. Part-Of-Speech (POS) tagging is a prerequisite for dependency parsing. Generally, dependency parsers do the POS tagging task along with dependency parsing in a pipeline mode. Unfortunately, in pipel...

Extrinsic Parse Selection

This paper reports on one aspect of Locutus, a natural language interface to databases (NLIDB) which uses the output of a highprecision broad-coverage grammar to build semantic representations and ultimately SQL queries. Rather than selecting just a subset of the parses provided by the grammar to use in further processing, Locutus uses all of them. If the meaning of a parse does not conform to ...

An Arabic Natural Language Interface System for a Database of the Holy Quran

In the time being, the need for searching in the words, objects, subjects, and statistics of words and parts of the Holy Quran has grown rapidly concurrently with the grow of number of Moslems and the huge usage of smart mobiles, tablets and lab tops. Because, databases are used almost in all activities of our life, some DBs have been built to store information about words and surah of Quran. T...

A robust speech understanding system using conceptual relational grammar

We describe a robust speech understanding system based on our newly developed approach to spoken language processing. We show that a robust NLU system can be rapidly developed using a relatively simple speech recognizer to provide sufficient information for database retrieval by spoken language. Our experimental system consists of three components: a speech recognizer based on HMM, a natural la...
